Afghan artist defies all odds - 6th March 2020
Robaba Mohammadi lives in Afghanistan. She is an artist. She can’t use her arms or legs. She has a lot of problems. Women and disabled people don’t have a lot of help here.
Mohammadi couldn’t go to school. She wanted to paint. She put a paint brush in her mouth. She learnt by herself. Mohammadi is now 19. She paints beautiful pictures. She sells them all over the world.
1.5 million people have a disability in Afghanistan. They don’t get much help. They have lots of problems. Mohammadi wanted to help. She started a training centre. It teaches disabled people art.
Mohammadi was born with her disability. She wanted to go to school with her brothers and sisters. She taught herself to read and write. She is a normal teenager. She writes on social media - with her tongue. She likes putting on makeup with friends.
