Power from plants - B1

Green energy of the future - 19th June 2020

Scientists have found a way to make energy from plants.

Scientists used the plants to produce hydrogen. They say this is the first step in their research. The final goal is for plants to produce electricity.

The scientists who made the discovery work at Israel’s Tel Aviv University. Their experiments used tiny plants called algae. Iflach Yacoby, manager of the laboratory, thinks this is a new start for farming.

We have always grown plants for food. Now, they might be grown for other needs, such as energy and chemicals.

Unfortunately, research is a slow process. It may be 20 years before we see the results.
