Call a llama - C1

Llamas on the line - 15th July 202

A Bolivian start-up has come up with an innovative way to aid tourism in Bolivia, which is suffering under lockdown.

'Callallama.com' is giving travellers with itchy feet the chance to connect with a real life llama, the national animal of Bolivia, via video call.

Whilst lockdown has put an end to the country's wildly popular llama tours, virtual visits are able to continue thanks to mobile phones, providing income to rural communities dependent on tourism.

Derren Patterson, the founder of “Call a Llama”, reflected on why he set it up.

Patterson: "It’s a good way for us to have some fun, bring a bit of joy to people that are stuck at home, and allow people to share in that wonder of travel, that we all need and love, but unfortunately at the moment we cannot do."

An English-speaking guide will introduce you to the llamas and the amazing places they live, giving you a taste of travel from the comfort of your front room.
