Princess Diana statue unveiled - B1

New statue of Princess Diana - 19th July 2021

A new statue of Princess Diana now stands at Kensington Palace London, where she used to live.

Princes William and Harry came to the palace gardens for a special ceremony. The statue was shown for the first time to close friends and family – the ceremony took place on their mother's 60th birthday.

Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in 1997.

"We will remember her love, strength and character," they said. They hope the artwork will make people think about their mother. They want the statue to be a symbol of Diana and her good work. She improved many people's lives.

The two brothers seemed happy and were smiling. Everyone clapped when the statue was uncovered. The statue was made by Ian Rank-Broadley – it is made of bronze metal. Princess Diana is seen standing with three young children.

The artwork is in the gardens of Kensington Palace in central London. Now the public can see Diana's statue for themselves.
