Glasgow: UK's first feminist city - A2

Glasgow now a city for women - 12th December 2022

The city of Glasgow's in Scotland. And now it's the UK's first "feminist" city.

In the past, men planned new towns and cities. But men plan places which are right for men, not women and other groups.

Holly Bruce is a member of the Green party. She thinks the idea is important. She brought it to the council in Glasgow. The council agreed to it.

But what does a feminist city look like? The council doesn't know yet. They want to ask people in Glasgow.

One idea is to put in lots of street lights. This will help make women feel safe. And it will help people from other groups too. A second idea is to make Glasgow more green and "walkable". Wide pavements are good for people with children and with wheelchairs.

As Bruce said, a feminist city is "not only important for women", but "for all".
