Roman building found in London - 3rd March 2025
In London, plans for a new building changed recently. A team from the Museum of London found something important.
Below the modern city is a big Roman building. It's 2,000 years old and it's the size of a football pitch. It was a "basilica" in Roman times.
A basilica's an important building. It was an open place for people to discuss things. For example, people came together to talk about politics. It was a centre for business too. And this basilica can help tell us about old London, or "Londinium".
After finding the basilica, the plans for the new building are now different. The new office block won't be as high, for example. Experts want to keep the Roman basilica safe, below ground.
In the future, there'll be a museum in the new building. People will visit it. They'll be able to find out about Roman London.
