2022: stories of hope - 26th December 2022

In 2022 climate change was big news. Changes are happening everywhere. But this year scientists continued to work hard. For example, in Ethiopia, scientists studied a special banana. The 'enset' banana doesn't need much water. It could help hungry people.

The natural world gave some nice surprises. In England, workers found a 'sea dragon'. This animal lived 180 million years ago. And scientists are going to bring back a dead animal – the Tasmanian tiger. Scientists are using the animal's DNA.

Scientists had some more interesting news. This news made people with haemophilia happy. Haemophilia is a blood problem. It's difficult to stop bleeding. But scientists found the answer to this problem. And a different team found something else important. They learned how dirty air starts cancer of the lungs. This will change how doctors work with lung cancer.

There were some other changes too. This time it was about money. A picture of writer Maya Angelou is now on the American 25 cent coin. It's the first time for a black woman. And in Switzerland, millionaires went to the World Economic Forum. The millionaires were angry. They wanted to pay more taxes to the government! That way, the world might be a better place.
