How 2020 began - 28th December 2020 Alles anzeigen

Life was very different back in January 2020. Bengaluru, India got some extra police. But they weren’t real. People thought it was a strange idea.

Man 2: “We do not, do not follow rules even if they are real.”

There was news about the environment. There were big fires in Australia. Africa had problems with locusts. Rainy places needed extra water.

Diengdoh: “We don't have that proper system of harnessing the rain.”

People got ready for Lunar New Year. Everyone was excited.

There were some changes from technology. Women started to sell food from their homes. They used apps to find customers.

Rashmi: “This kind of platform gives them a chance to work at home, look after the family, look after her dreams.”

People worked together in places with problems. They made olive oil together.

Philippides: “Coliveoil is trying to promote the peace process in Cyprus through a common goal.”

People saw new fashion ideas arrive in London. The clothes are all good for the environment.

Rodrigo: “The skins were just going to waste then we turned into this beautiful leather.”

The film ‘Parasite’ won Oscars in Hollywood. The film was in Korean, not English. This was the first foreign film to win best picture. No-one knew about the pandemic. The film maker was hopeful for the future.

Kwak Sin-ae: “I feel like a very opportune moment in history is happening right now.”

Then the pandemic came. No-one went outside. There were new rules. Everyone wanted to stop Covid-19. We saved people’s lives. And we helped the environment.

In Delhi, there was no pollution. The sky was blue. The clean air helped bees too. They made extra honey.

Singh: “when human activity stops naturally air quality improves.”

Zoo animals didn’t like the pandemic. They were sad like us. We couldn’t see our friends. They didn’t have any visitors.

Jennifer: “I feel like they are really missing the visitors as well as all the staff.”

People wanted a better world. All over the world, people said: “Black Lives Matter”. They went on their knees. They said “No” to racism.

We lived in a new normal. Businesses had lots of problems.

Nikki: “the climate is changing so they have to adapt to warmer temperatures.”

We saw our friends outside. Liverpool won the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp is their coach. He said teams bring people together.

Klopp: “When you have a successful football club in your city, it always gives the city a lift.” Weniger anzeigen
