Offices left empty as New Yorkers work from home

New York is usually a very busy city. The pandemic changed New York. Now, it is a very quiet city.

There aren’t many people in the streets. Lots of offices and businesses are closed. Only a few people work in the city. Most people work at home.

Luc Kamperman has an office in New York. He goes there once a week. Luc thinks New York will change. People won’t come to the office every day.

Luc Kamperman: "But I do think that we will see a different type of vibe and that people are only coming in two or three days a week and not five days a week. So it will have a massive impact on everything that's built around these offices and having all, you know, all these people going to shops and cafes, etc."

Many people like working at home. They can phone people. They can send emails.

Some companies want to change their offices. Offices can be friendly places. Workers can learn new skills there.

People in cities want to go back to offices. Young people like them too.

Bhushan Sethi: "Number of companies have been surveying their people on their comfort with coming back to the office. The, the main population who are looking to return back are people who either live in the city, where they can walk or cycle to work, or younger people.
