A castle in Cornwall, England is advertising for a new caretaker. The job is based on an island called St Michael's Mount. A very old castle is located on top of the island. The caretaker must stay five nights a week. The job is to take care of the whole island.
The island is 450 metres away from the coast. Boats sail to and from St Michael's Mount daily. But when the sea tide is low, people can walk across to the island.
Part of the castle was built in 1135. First, it was a religious place and there was a church. Later, the St Aubyn family bought the island. The St Aubyn family has lived there for hundreds of years.
The family and an organisation are responsible for the island. The new job requires someone who is calm and kind. They should be practical too.
St Michael's Mount is a popular tourist destination. The caretaker needs to look over the castle rooms after visitors leave. In the evening, the island is very quiet. The new caretaker needs to feel comfortable on their own.
They also have to live without fast food because it is impossible to order pizza to the island!
