Delivery drone traffic jams

These drones are carrying food to customers in Tel Aviv, Israel. This is becoming a popular way to send food and medicine. But now, air traffic has become a problem.

HighLander is a software company. It has created a way to make drones fly safely. Alon Abelson is HighLander's CEO. He talks about the importance of their software.

Alon Abelson: "To fly one drone is not an issue. You just give it a sterile area and that's it. We are talking about multi drones that actually communicate between themselves. They are not communicating between themselves because they come from different drone manufacturers, but still they are monitoring with our software and we can make sure they don't collide - landing safely and everything. Exactly like an air traffic controller."

Countries are watching the situation in Israel. Most companies like Google have drones. But they can't communicate with other companies' drones.

Daniella Partem manages the drone project at the Israel Innovation Authority.

Daniella Partem: "We're trying to create, using the system you see behind us, a managing system that will enable many drones flown by different companies in urban areas, flying together for many usages, such as medical delivery, such as security, such as food delivery."

Israel used to be number one in the world for drone technology. But Russia and Turkey have become the new leaders for military drones. So, Israel is now trying to be the best in using drones for business. Sending food like ice cream to customers could help Israel be number one for drones again.
